Jury Duty... Why oh why....

Another "love letter"

What a retard...

Since when do you need an "admin privileges" to cycle display output?

All you have to press is the Function key + F8.

You gotta love this shit when people who doesn't know shit, acts like they know shit. Where do you learn about "Admin Privileges" anyway?

I'd have to ask, what have you been smoking?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So I have to take my wife for a "mandatory" jury duty. I figured since we are good tax paying citizens, we should at least make the trip.

The jury summons letter set the time of meeting to be 8:45 am on Tuesday morning. I woke up this morning around 6:30 am, not that I am ever a morning person. Then we set out and leave the house around 7:00 am.

For those of you who live in the LA area surely know that the 405 freeway is notorious for its traffic jam, we were thinking that if we leave early enough, we can surely beat the traffic; plus using the carpool lane would also speed up things.

So we have to drive from San Fernando area to Beverly Hills courthouse, why they don't schedule the jury to serve on a closer courthouse I could never understand. We have the Chatsworth courthouse practically 5 minutes away from where we live, yet we have to drive over to Beverly Hills.

Well, it took us about 1.5 hours to drive the 15.7 mile from San Fernando to Beverly Hills, we were not late but we were not early either. Then what was annoying is that, they do not have any case for the day, so my wife was let go 10 minutes after the initial summons. So we literally drive for 1.5 hours in traffic for nothing.

Now I do understand that jury duty is one of our civic duty and I do not think the idea is bad at all. I just think some improvements could be made:

  • The Jury Telephone line should be upgraded, and at least have better functions than simply taking your registration and then rudely (randomly) hangs up on you--it feels like playing "hang-up roulette". Have you ever noticed how hard it is to get a hold someone from any of the public service telephone line? They are overburdened, and hardly anyone is ever on the other line. If you think calling the Jury Duty line is tough, try the welfare office... (I thought so).

  • I think the courthouse should be open 24 hours, so that busy people can report for Jury Duty during off hours. For positive revenue, the courthouse can also open a Yoga center and Gym membership.

  • They should have some kind of Internet registration, in this day and age where everyone is carrying iPhones and BlackBerries, it is just a common sense to be able to complete your Jury Duty registration online and even check the status of the summons.

  • Fees, fees and fees... There are no motivation whatsoever to perform jury duty. You do not (hardly) get paid to serve, your company often times don't reimburse you for that, plus on top of that you would have to spend money on gas (maybe bus/ train fares) and parking (since those snotballs won't allow you to actually park in the courthouse, you actually have to pay to park across the street for 8 bucks whole day). Totally a waste of taxpayer's money and resources. I am doing my civic duty, in the courthouse out of my own willingness and yet I cannot park in the courthouse? That is totally absurd... I think the courthouse should implement a parking system as well as vallet and concierge services.

  • When I go around the courthouse, I see cops everywhere writing tickets and checking you out, the courthouse should be more friendly by rolling out the red carpet and allowing Starbucks to open a drive thru besides the courthouse, not only this will generate revenue, it will also create a friendlier environment. Integrate that with online ordering from point 3, then you will get a slam dunk!
Here are just some of the improvement ideas that I have noticed, now if we can get the ball rolling that would be great!
